GRAY IS 4
What a hot day it was for Gray’s birthday on Tuesday! Lucky he brought some fruit sorbet for us all to share for the celebration of him turning four. Thanks Gray!
PAPER WEAVING
We have built on our previous lesson, where weaving was incorporated, by allowing the children to practise more weaving in a different way, though still with paper. Weaving helps children to develop concentration and their fine motor muscles in their hands and fingers, as well as hand-eye co-ordination as they co-ordinate the movements of their hands. Weaving also helps children learn about patterns, as they make alternating colours and then must reverse this for the next paper strip.
CHINESE LANTERNS
The children have been looking at Chinese lanterns, and we have read the story THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LANTERN (Sally Heinrich). We then made our own simple lanterns from paper to get an idea of how the lanterns are made, and some of us began to learn how to weave through the lantern slits. Through learning about different countries and cultures, children learn to develop new ideas about identity, accept others and broaden their perspectives of the world around them
AREPAS!!
Felipe shared with us today some arepa flour and some grated cheese, and we made arepas together (a Colombian food made from ground maize. Arepas are usually eaten daily in Colombia and can be served with cheese, meat and other sweet or savoury toppings). He showed us how to mix the dough with the water and cheese and roll the dough into balls before flattening it out ready to cook. Felipe told us that at home he cooks arepas in the oven or in a pan. All the children really enjoyed making (and eating) the arepas. When children participate in such experiences, they learn more about the world around them, and that everyone is accepted, feeling recognised and respected for who they are and where they come from. Thank you, Felipe, for sharing your culture with us!
VALENTINE’S DAY IN TODDLERS
February is the month of love and friendship. Today in toddlers room we celebrated valentine’s day with beautiful cards made by ourselves. This experience helped children to developed their fine motors skills by spreading the glue with the brush, sticking the small pieces of paper. Also, they are learning social skills by sharing with their peers.
SELF SKILLS OF TODDLERS
This week in toddlers’ room we have been reinforcing some cleaning practices, children were happy to help, making them more independent and developing a sense of autonomy. They are good contributors at Amigoss.
DANCING AND PLAYING INSTRUMENTS WITH TODDLERS
As Miss Silvia brought a speaker, we have been enjoying different songs and rhythm at the outdoor area. We complemented the songs with some instruments, where most of the children were shaking their body!
ANIMAL BOX TODDLERS
This week we have been talking about some animals, what sound they do and where they live. As a sensorial experience, we had a jungle in our Centre! Children had the opportunity to choose an animal and play with those in 5 different environments! Sand, rocks, grass, mud, and water. They had so much fun mixing the animals with natural resources. Also, they were curious about feeling different type of textures. This experience helps children to discover and explore her ideas and interest through smells, textures, sounds, etc. To extend their learning some children removed their shoes to feel the textures with their feet.
