TRACING LETTERS
The children were involved in a spontaneous letter tracing experience, attracting many children who had not initially been playing in this area. Children challenged themselves to find the letters of their names, and to take turns with the letters and chalk if someone else needed them too. They showed their persistence, creativity and resilience as some children were able to write the letters free hand if they could not find a letter!
SOMEONE WE LOVE
As it is Valentine’s Day, the children have been talking about what love is, why we feel love, what it feels like and who they love. The discussions have been lovely to listen to, and the group was encouraged to draw a picture of someone they love and to say why. This type of experience helps children to think and feel in different ways, and to express these thoughts and feelings, it also develops altruism and kindness as we think about one another and what we can do that will make each other comfortable and happy.
CHINESE CHARACTERS
As part of our Chinese New Year project, we have been looking at some Chinese symbols and discussing how these differ from letters in the English language. The children learned about how the symbols are created and were able to see some of the representations of the words in the characters, such as the mountain character looking similar to a mountain itself! They were then invited to use the coloured cards and black ink to replicate some of the Chinese word symbols, available for viewing on the painting table. The children were able to try and copy the symbols and characters with concentration and accuracy.
PLAYDOUGH SHAPES
On Wednesday in toddlers’ room we started playing with playdough, children asked to do shapes for them. Miss Diana showed them how to make them using the playdough cutters, and rolling pin. It was a spontaneous and fun activity.
HANDPRINT BUTTERFLY WITH BABIES
This week we were learning with babies about the animals and their sounds. Then Miss Silvia decided with a fun art activity, the babies did a print of a butterfly using his hand as a tool—a great way to stimulate his sense of touch and they love playing with paint
After finally getting the prints, Miss Silvia let me babies play around with the finger paint for a little while. when we finished this experience, we sang the song “Mariposita”
PLAYDOUGH BABIES
Following with our topic about animals, our babies were exploring with the playdough (touching, smashing, and cutting shapes).
